What are Alexa and MOZ?

Alexa

Alexa is a tool created by Amazon to track various website statistics.

The Alexa Rank provides a numeric rank that compares one website to all other sites on the internet.

Google ranks as #1 currently (2020) with all other sites on the internet following behind in numeric order into the millions. Even a site with an Alexa rank of 1 million could pull in decent traffic.

Alexa rankings are added to a site when someone who has the Alexa toolbar installed on their browser visits the site, so even large sites sometimes have no Alex data because no one with the toolbar installed has visited the site recently.

Alexa also gathers other data such as Adult Content, which tracks whether or not the media property contains explicit adult content.

Moz

Moz specializes in SEO metrics. There are two that Mediarails utilizes, the Domain Authority and the Spam Score.

MOZ Domain Authority: will predict how well a website will rank on a search engine results page.

The Moz Domain Authority ranking is between 0 and 100. The higher the number, the better the website according to Moz.

Moz Spam Score: with the Moz Spam score you are able to tell if the record you are looking at has been flagged as spam.

This score is shown on a 1-17 scale and the higher the score, the more likely it is that the site has been flagged as spam by search engines. This number can also be represented as a percentage.
